Effect of supplementing Saccharomyces cerevisiae to milk on the growth performance, white blood cell profile, skeletal indices, and rectal temperature in neonatal Simmental calves

Abstract

AABSTRACT- In the present study, 30 newborn calves with an average weight of 42.55 ± 0.98 kg were used in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 6 replicates over a period of 42 days. The yeasts were mixed with milk and fed to the calves in the morning. The experimental diets were as follows: 1- control diet (without yeast), 2- 2.5 grams of live yeast, 3- 5 grams of live yeast, 4- 2.5 grams of inactive yeast, and 5- diet containing 5 grams of inactive Saccharomyces cerevisiae per calf per day. The calves were fed milk twice daily, in the morning and evening. Every 21 days, the calves were weighed, skeletal indices and rectal temperature were measured. Blood samples were collected at the end of the period. Milk composition was measured. The results showed that 2.5 gr of non-living yeast had the highest daily weight gain and also had the lowest feed conversion ratio (P < 0.05). Except eosinophil other components of white blood cells were not affected,. Yeast- supplementation had no significant effect on the rectal temperature and skeletal growth indices (P<0.05) . Adding live and non-living yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to milk, increased the dry matter, density and conductivity of milk. Finally, it was concluded that adding live and non-live yeast Saccharomyces servicii to milk improved performance of suckling calves.

چکیده- در پژوهش حاضر 30 گوساله نوزاد با میانگین وزن 0/98 ± 42/55 کیلوگرم در قالب طرح کاملاً تصادفی با 5 تیمار و 6 تکرار در مدت 42 روز مورد استفاده قرار گرفتند. مخمرها را با شیر مخلوط کرده و صبح به گوساله ها می دادند. جیره های آزمایشی به شرح زیر بودند: 1- جیره شاهد (بدون مخمر)، 2-2/5 گرم مخمر زنده، 3-5 گرم مخمر زنده، 4-2/5 گرم مخمر غیرفعال و 5- جیره حاوی 5 گرم ساکارومایسس غیرفعال. سرویزیه در هر گوساله در روز. گوساله ها دو بار در روز، صبح و عصر با شیر تغذیه می شدند. هر 21 روز، گوساله ها وزن، شاخص های اسکلتی و دمای رکتوم اندازه گیری شد. نمونه خون در پایان دوره جمع آوری شد. ترکیب شیر اندازه گیری شد. نتایج نشان داد که 2/5 گرم مخمر غیر زنده بیشترین افزایش وزن روزانه و همچنین کمترین ضریب تبدیل خوراک را داشت (0/05 > P). به جز ائوزینوفیل، سایر اجزای گلبول های سفید تحت تأثیر قرار نگرفتند. مصرف مکمل مخمر تأثیر معنی‌داری بر دمای رکتوم و شاخص‌های رشد اسکلتی نداشت (0/05>P). افزودن مخمر زنده و غیر زنده ساکارومایسس سرویزیه به شیر باعث افزایش ماده خشک، چگالی و رسانایی شیر شد. در نهایت نتیجه گیری شد که افزودن مخمر زنده و غیر زنده ساکارومایسس سرویسی به شیر باعث بهبود عملکرد گوساله های شیرده می شود.
